Empyreal Illusions *Cover Reveal* & Author Spotlight

Empyreal Illusions
by Jake Bonsignore

Fourteen-year-old Breena Taljain’s dreary existence in the slums of Purgaire comes to a sudden end when a chance encounter with a criminal mastermind known as the Patriarch goes horridly wrong. His assault on her for refusing to pay for her mother’s addiction leaves her comatose and teetering on the edge of life and death.
Galbrecht Atalir is a washed-up doctor struggling to overcome his inner demons through alcohol and aggression. He never quite recovered from the unsolved murder of his family seven years prior. When he discovers Breena as his newest patient, he knows at once that the Patriarch is the one who eluded him for almost a decade.
The medicine Galbrecht gives Breena draws her into a heavenly paradise. When it ebbs away, though, the recurring trauma plunges her into treacherous hinterlands. There, Breena must learn to find power in courage, hope, and love to overcome fiends of hatred bent on permanently ending her existence.
With justice burning in his heart, Galbrecht begins a race against time to seek out the Patriarch in the underworld before Breena loses her struggle against the ever-darkening terrors of her mind….

My name is Jake Bonsignore. I grew up in New York but currently reside in Florida. I am a graduate of the University of South Florida. My first novel, a fantasy (largely YA) called Descendant of Strife, was published in 2007. I write many genres, although my favorite is fantasy fiction. Since the release of Descendant of Strife I have completed another fantasy, Empyreal Illusions: Book One of The Inferno Unleashed series. It is due for an ebook release in May of 2013 and a paperback release in July of 2013. The fantasy sequel, Awakening the Fire: Book Two of The Inferno Unleashed series is due for a late 2013 / early 2014 release. I am currently working on The Lioness, a Young Adult Romance. I have plans for many other novels after The Lioness.

My writing style is typically third-person perspective with emphasis on characterization. This includes sporadic introspection. I like to weave subtle elements and references to sciences, religion, lore, and other cultures into my work, as well. I can write works at varying lengths, although I love the challenge and perks a lengthy novel presents.

My greatest influence as a writer has been music.  Never mind the fact that I get 200% more work done wheN i am listening to music as I write or edit. Many songs have sparked new ideas for scenes and actual entire book ideas. Something about the tune, a lyric, even the way something sounds can strike a chord and generate that little yet quintessential spark that gives me the idea and motivation to write. I have also been inspired by some of my favorite writers, such as Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan, Tad Williams, Robert McCammon, and Mercedes Lackey. Their level of professional work and expertise at the craft prodded me to do the very best I can in crafting my tales.

Reading and writing are amongst my favorites things to do. Aside from that, I love engaging in physical fitness. There's nothing a good work out can't solve! :)
