Release Day Event!

135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.

As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “I <3 Sam Green” T-shirt Harper promised she'd have on.

To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.

My Review:

This book gave me warm fuzzy feelings all over! It has all the qualities I look for in a good story...humor, drama, romance. I was pretty much hooked from the very first page! The character development was excellent, the author did a perfect job of giving you plenty of background information on our two main characters and made them easily relateable. The story flows perfectly without a dull moment to be seen. I really enjoyed L.M.'s writing style.

The story: When West Ryder loses his mother in a car accident he blames her death on his father. If he hadn't been driving drunk and ran a red light then that truck never would have run into their car killing his mother on the spot. His relationship with his father is instantly damaged beyond repair. They barely exist to each other and constantly argue and belittle each other. Unable and unsure how to cope with the loss of his mother and rising tensions with his father, West creates a video blog and spills his inner most thoughts to a bunch of strangers...135,789 strangers to be exact. Nobody around him knows about his blog, or so he thinks. The vlog gives him something to invest his time and energy into, and along with the help of his best friend Cat Davenport he's able to manage his emotions. And then the pizza lovin Harper Knight comes along. Everyday at the same time (2:02pm) she leaves him a message. They instantly connect and after months of conversation they finally agree to meet. Much to West's surprise, Harper is actually his best friend Cat. While his feelings for Cat are changing he's still not willing to give up his best friend. She's the only one he can rely on who's always been there for him. He's too afraid to love her for fear of losing her just like he lost his mother.

Even though the main characters were highschool students they seemed much older and wiser than your average teenagers. I loved the witty banter between West and Cat, and the way their friendship is so effortless, they just get each other. Cat is just plain awesome. My favorite line has to be, "We can be friends for now. But West Ryder, if you think this means I won't fight for you with every last breath I have, you're in for a hell of a surprise." That kind of sealed the deal on her awesomeness. I love that once her secret was out in the open she was fearless about acting on her feelings. West, however needed to be smacked a couple times for over thinking the situation. I totally get the reasoning behind his actions and concerns, and I seriously wanted to cry on his behalf more than once. His relationship with his father was just so heart breaking. They're both hurting but neither wants to or can comfort the other. I was definitely rooting for them to reconnect. All in all this story was just perfect, I loved it! It actually kind of reminded me of Some Kind of Wonderful, and made me feel the way only an 80's movie can. Awesome.

Meet The Author...
L.M. Augustine

Author blurb: When not saving the world, I spend my time as a boring New England who has a slight obsession with writing about dorky teenagers and romance. I need books probably more than I need air, and I am one of those creepy people who ALWAYS has to smell a new book. I also--don't judge me--have a really awful, 99%-incomplete foreign money collection. I am a fan of all things dessert, and I believe that chocolate will one day serve as the solution to the world's problems. By night, I haunt the streets fighting crime, saving kittens, and being awesome--the usual suspects. Okay, so that might be a lie.

My debut YA romance, Click To Subscribe, releases on May 9th.
