I stopped in front of room 1628 and noticed it was wedged open. I took that as a sign to let myself in, so I did. The setting was weird. The lights were all off, and instead of smelling food, I smelled candles and… oil.
I kept walking until I came across a bed. A bed with two people laying under the covers. There I stood at the end of the bed where Drake and Violet were laying. Their eyes were closed, but their bodies were touching. Fire built up inside me as I saw the two together. There was no way this was happening. He would never do this, would he?
I looked around the room and saw two empty wine glasses on the table and a tray of half eaten food. There was no explanation, but that they had dinner, got drunk, and crawled into bed together. I mean, that was the obvious scenario. I was looking right at it, yet I couldn’t believe it. I really couldn’t believe it.
I didn’t know whether to rip the covers off and slap the cheating bastard until my hand went numb or walk away and take the high road. I knew what I really wanted to do – beat the living shit out of both of them, but the better sense got to me, and instead I stormed out, slamming the door behind me.
My blood boiled, the heat racing into my face, and the furiousness I now felt was on overload. I have never felt so mad in my life. I still couldn’t believe it. I should’ve confronted the asshole and his mistress, but I just couldn’t. Sometimes I couldn’t control my limits before I went off the deep end. This was pain. Stub your toe, burn your hand on the stove, get hit in the face type of pain. Only now, it felt ten times worse. My heart ached. It actually ached with the amount of pain, hurt, and betrayal I was feeling.
I paid the cab driver extra to get me back to my house in record time. I wanted to cry, scream, and laugh all at the same time. Part of me wanted to believe it was some crude joke and that they’d pop out and say ‘gotcha!’ Then after a few choice words, we’d laugh and move on. But I knew that wasn’t the case. I wanted to throw anything I could get my hands on. I wanted to slap Drake as hard as I could, but I knew that wasn’t me.
“What’s wrong?” Michael asked, after watching me slam the door behind me. He noticed the rage in my face and was soon at my side.
“I’m a fucking moron, Michael! How could this happen?” I yelled, covering my face with my hands. My legs gave out and soon I was kneeling on the floor. He leaned over and hugged me, not having any clue as to what I just witnessed. “They were in bed together,” I whispered through tears. I knew he would want to kill him just as much as I wanted to.
“Drake!” he shouted, leaning back to look at me. “There’s no way, girl. Trust me, I saw the disgust written all over him when she was here.” He tried to comfort me, but it was too late. Far too late.
“I know what I saw! They were sleeping under the covers in her bed, Michael. There was food and wine. What do you think happened?”
“Perhaps…” he said while thinking of how to put me at ease. “He drank too much and passed out?”
“Naked?” I snapped back. “Don’t give him any excuses.”
“I’m sorry, Mols. I wish there was a better explanation. Didn’t you wake him?”
“Nope. Better he have to live with the fact that he’ll be waking up next to her instead of me.” He rubbed my back as I crawled on the floor and buried my head in my arms. “Can I sleep with you tonight?”
“Of course. But no kicking me this time.” He let out a soft chuckle, knowing I wasn’t in the mood to laugh right now.
The title says it all, Kitchen Scandals is super scandalous! There are so many twists & turns going on making this one action packed story from beginning to end. Everybody's got secrets in this one and you will be left guessing right up until the last page. And just when you think you have it all figured out everything changes! Ms. Cumberland has definitely kicked up the heat & intensity in her 2nd novel, while still maintaining the believability factor of her characters and storyline that I fell in love with in Kitchen Affairs. I can't even comment on all the drama without giving something away so all I'm going to say is jump on this series ASAP!
My only complaint, which is why I rated 4 instead of 5 stars, is the massive amount of typos and use of the wrong words. It actually happened frequently enough to interrupt my reading. So I had to knock off a star since it took away from the flow of the story (for me). But I did read an ARC, so these mistakes may not exist in the published version. Otherwise I would definitely recommend this series and look forward to the final installment in the Riverside Trilogy.
