Review - That First Kiss by J.C. Valentine

Mercurial and charming, Tate Larson is a rising author and playboy who has a different woman on his arm every night of the week. Focused on his work, Tate has no plans to settle down any time soon. That is until he meets his pretty new assistant, Piper Donovan.

Desperate to escape the promise of backwater living, Piper ditched her Alabama hometown and never looked back. That was almost two years ago. Now that she is out of a job and her bank account is running on fumes, she s desperate to find a job, fast. After a brief but explosive encounter with a man she was never supposed to see again turns out to be the same man she will be bending over backwards to please, her every instinct tells her to run. But when running means leaving the life she has struggled so hard to create, Piper decides her only option is to continue working for the devastatingly sexy Tate Larson...even if it kills her.

**This sexy, steamy, contemporary erotic romance is a FULL LENGTH novel that comes complete with an HEA, which is something you can come to expect from Ms. Valentine, because like you, she's a true romantic. Even though this is a series, each book can be read as a stand alone; however, it is recommended that you go back to read each of them so you can fully appreciate the series and its characters.**

*This book contains adult situations and explicit content. Recommended for readers 18+*

~ Bryn's Review ~

That First Kiss starts off rather strong. I found Piper and her friends amusing maybe not completely realistic in their interactions but amusing none the less. This book focuses on a one night stand in a club’s bathroom that leads to a forced day to day interaction because of a job. Yep the one night stand ends up being Piper's boss.

Piper is one of those characters that while funny, was a bit insecure and flip flopped in her emotions quite a bit. I am thinking she might need meds to help her make up her mind. However Tate is to blame for most of this but still there were moments when I wished I was one of her friends so I could simply shake her.

Tate is an ass. Yep I said it, he is all over the place, a massive prick to Piper one second and then trying to get in her pants the next. This book had some good moments but the plot felt inconsistent and the characters did as well. Now I call Tate an ass but he has sweet moments and at one point I was rooting him one at which point Piper turned cold after she got her rocks off.

The sex in this book is well written, and if the characters were more relatable and little less all over the place this story would be a solid 4. I will say that the ending was sweet and left a smile on my face.
