Review - The Journey Collection by Lisa Bilbrey

The Journey Collection

~ Kelli's Review ~
I am going to review the whole collection as opposed to each novella individually due to the fact that each novella is just another piece of the story. I don’t want to delve into too much detail so that you, as a reader, are able to experience it for yourself.

Ever since he was a young boy, Travis McCoy dreamt of playing football in a large stadium surrounded by the screams of thousands of his fans. He fell in love with the game at the young age of 5 when his father had brought him to his first game. He was mesmerized instantly and decided right then and there that someday, that would be him down there with the ball in his hands and nothing would stop him from reaching that goal.

Years later, he had finally followed his dream. He fought hard, trained hard, and never let anything get in his way. Unfortunately, sacrifices had to be made along the way. He fell in love in high school, but had to leave his love behind because he would always put his dreams first. He was heartbroken and never stopped thinking about his first and only love, Penelope. But he couldn’t afford to look back. He left his old life behind the day he left for college and hasn’t returned to his hometown since.

Six years into his professional career as a quarterback for the Miami Sharks, an injury brings his dreams to a crashing halt. He is angry, so incredibly angry. To make matters worse, he receives a letter from his old high school requesting his appearance to boost their football team’s spirits for their homecoming game. He would do anything for the kids and would love nothing more than to show them they can do it, but that means returning to the very place he swore he would never set foot in again. Of course, he does and he definitely faced with more than he ever thought possible.

I typically try to steer clear of novellas but I was really impressed with this collection. I found myself eager to find out what happened next and it was a really sweet story. Travis faces what he thought was the end of the world, but little did he know, he had so much more waiting for him in the next chapter of his life. I would recommend this for anyone looking for an uplifting read with a happy ending!
