Conflict by M.S. Willis - Blog Tour & Giveaway

***Content Warning – This is a new adult fiction with mature themes. It contains graphic sexual situations, mature language and explicit description of sexual violence.***

Conflict is the second book in the Control series. This description contains spoilers for those who have not read book one in the series, entitled Control.

Private Investigator, Paige Stone has always appreciated the independence of her life, however, her world was pitched upside down when she and her roommates were attacked and nearly killed. As a result of the attack by Chris, Paige now finds herself dependent upon Daemon Pierce for a place to live as she hides from Chris. Paige has never lived with a man before and demands that Daemon consider her a “roommate” only, even though it goes against her own desires.

Strong-willed and arrogant, Daemon Pierce has been working hard to protect Paige from Chris and from herself. Letting go of his life as a womanizer, Daemon tries to prove to Paige that she can trust him, even though he refuses to enlighten her as to his past. Daemon struggles to comply with Paige’s ridiculous demand to be “roommates” and quickly finds that he has fallen in love with the girl who does nothing but push him away.

Chris is still on the loose and Paige becomes impatient at the amount of time it is taking the authorities to apprehend him. Paige takes it upon herself to hunt Chris down, while still refusing to ask for Daemon’s assistance. When Paige discovers a message left by Chris, she devices a plan to locate him while keeping Daemon in the dark as to her plans. Paige’s emotional journey once again places her in dangerous situations and when secrets are revealed and decisions are made, Paige has no choice but to look deep within herself to see if she can finally trust the man who will stop at nothing to save her.

My head fell back under the spray of the water and it soaked my hair.  My eyes were shut against the rivulets of water running down my face.  Eventually, I lifted my head to let the water travel down my back and when I rubbed it from my eyes, I opened them to find Daemon standing in front of me.  He was completely naked and his eyes seared into mine.  I gasped from the intensity of his gaze and my body jumped in reaction to my surprise.  Every defined muscle on his body was tense and his hands were clenched into fists.  Water continued pouring down my body and I couldn’t will myself to speak.  I was frozen in place staring at what was probably the most powerful person I had ever known.  Both physically and mentally, Daemon had absolute command over, not only himself, but everything around him.   He demanded respect whenever he entered a room and he carried himself in such a way that the potential threat within him did not go unnoticed.  Yet, for as hard and authoritative as he was, he could still be soft and compassionate.  There was this playful, boyish side to him that lit the entire room around him and all that stood nearby.
With one long stride he moved under the spray of the water with me.  The water ran down his tanned skin, leaving little drops that would eventually slide along the outline of his perfect lips, his broad chest and down along the muscles of his abdomen.  My body trembled at his proximity and I jumped at the sudden sound of his voice.
“Take it out on me, Paige.”
My brows pulled together in confusion at his request and he stepped closer before explaining.  He was barely brushing up against me when he said, “Your anger, your frustration, your pain...take it out on me.  Let me be your outlet.”
I was knocked back by his words.  What did he want me to do?  I didn’t understand the strange request he was making and I remained quiet as I tried to make sense of what he was saying.   His close proximity put me at eye level with his smooth chest and I had to look up to catch his eyes.
“I don’t understand what you want me to do, Daemon.  Do you want me to fight you?  Somehow I think that could be dangerous while we are both naked and soaking wet in the shower.”  My voice was husky and raw and my body was absolutely on fire for him.  Just staring at the water as it streamed along the ridges of his muscular body was igniting within me such desire, that the anger and frustration that had earlier consumed me was being smothered and extinguished.
Daemon reached down, grabbed my hands and placed them flat against his rock hard chest.  I could feel the strong, rhythmic beat of his heart.  He held my hands in place as he said, “Scream at me, hit me, scratch me, kick me, fuck me…it doesn’t matter as long as I can help take some of that pain and frustration out of you.  I don’t care what you do to me, Paige, just as long as you’re with me.  Use me anyway you need, just never leave.”  He leaned down to place a kiss on the top of my head.  His forehead rested on mine when he continued. “Promise me, Paige, that you’ll never let me go.  I don’t think I could survive it.”

My Review:

An amazing follow up to Control!

I love when authors don't waste too much time recapping what's happened in the previous book(s), and instead pick up right where the story left off. It's greatly appreciated, at least by me, and that's exactly what M.S. Willis did here!

There isn't much I can say without giving away key parts of the story, so to put it simply, Conflict is pretty awesome. The intensity & drama of Control flows right into this next book making it nearly impossible to put it down. There are plenty of twists & turns...and revelations to keep you on the edge of your seat! Not to mention lots more of Daemon & Paige and their super hot chemistry. The comedic relief was present more so this time around and it helped balance out the mood of the book keeping it from being downright depressing. (It's a serious subject matter after all). Each character is true to their description & definitely believable: Paige is a bad ass heroine, Daemon is the jaw dropping alpha male, Chris is the psychotic villain.

I really like the fact that this series has an underlying message about being lost (versus broken), and that there is always more than one victim in every situation. There's a positive message amongst all the chaos about survival & strength, that shouldn't be ignored. I think this was a perfect touch to the story, so kudos to Ms. Willis for tackling this subject and incorporating it so smoothly into the story.

Katie and Jacob: She felt her courage slipping. If he didn't hurry up, she didn't know if she'd actually be able to agree to it. “Look, if your offers still on the table, just let me know when you want me.”A smile formed on his face, showing off his dimple. His gray eyes glimmered.

“Want you? I thought we were talking about art?”

She rolled her eyes as a blush crept up her neck. “Yeah, we are.”

He laughed slightly, becoming comfortable with this change. “I'm just giving you a hard time.”

“I'm sure that won't be the only thing that's hard.” Her face flamed bright red. She couldn't believe she just said that. He stood up and grabbed her arm as she turned away, keeping her still.

His fingers lightly grasped her chin, forcing her mortified gaze to meet his fiery one. His voice was husky, deep. “Hey, no need to turn away.”

Review - Branded by Abi Ketner & Missy Kalicicki

Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.
The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

My Review:

Super intense, emotionally disturbing and utterly captivating!! Be prepared to be completely consumed by this novel and the amazing writing talent of Abi and Missy. The world they create is so unbelievably vivid, it's almost as if you step out of this one and into theirs watching every scene unfold right before your very eyes. There are so many twists and turns and unlike some novels where you feel there's too much going on, each plot twist is executed perfectly and seamlessly keeping you intrigued and literally on the edge of your seat.

Lexi is an incredible heroine who has faced & overcome many obstacles in her past and while she still suffers from all the trauma she manages to keep going, finding strength in those around her. Life under The Commanders rule is anything but easy. Anyone guilty (which is everyone accused) of committing one of the 7 deadly sins is branded (according to their sin) and sent to The Hole, our modern day version of a jail but worse. Inhabitants are expected to work under the watchful eye of the Guards who are anything but just, and are left to die once they are no longer deemed useful. Survival is key but extremely difficult.

Much like the summary warns, be prepared for violence, death, and darkness. But don't worry there's also love…in all forms: for a father, for a dear friend, for an unlikely 4 legged companion, and of course for a man. Do yourself a favor and take a chance on this one, you will be blown away.

Excerpt —Everything I’ve Never Had by Lynetta Halat—Sept. 2013 (Unedited and subject to change.)

Adrian runs his hands up my arms and shoulders until they grasp both sides of my neck to tilt my head back so that I'm staring straight into his arctic blue eyes. I immediately start trembling, and it's not with fear. "Celeste, I'm begging you not to leave here looking like that. You look gorgeous, babe, but I can't sit here all night wondering who's hitting on you, who's imagining moving that scrap of fabric over to get a glimpse at what is..."

"What is what?" I breathe heavily.

"What is underneath it all." His brow wrinkles, and I feel his hands tighten their pleasurably painful grip. "What is underneath it all?"

"Just me, Adrian, just me," I breathe. "That's all."

"So everything then. Just like I thought." He removes one of his hands to run it up the back of my thigh. My eyes widen and I swallow hard.

"That's not a good idea," I whisper. His hand wraps all the way around my thigh, his fingertips coming to rest along the crease of my left cheek. My thigh pulses with fire.

"Why not?" His fingertips tease back and forth a little. Even though it’s a light touch, it feels like his calloused fingertips mark me.

"Why not? Look at us. We can't even have a civil conversation for everything that has passed between us, and you want to further complicate it. What you're doing will further complicate matters."

His hand stills. He exhales loudly and lets his head drop on my chest. "You do this to me. I don't act like this. That day in the park, watching you cross and uncross your legs. Throwing your hair over your shoulder. Laughing without a care in the world. Cheering me on like it was your favorite thing to do! It killed me. Killed me. I've never wanted a woman the way I want you. Never."

His words rain down on me like fiery drops of lust. I close my eyes and rewrite that memory. I thought he was just being an ass, but his unexpected anger was because he was yearning for me. I bite my lip, open my eyes, and shake my head. "It's just because you can't have me, Adrian. I'm nothing special."

"Oh, baby, you have no idea." He runs his nose up my throat, scenting me as he goes. I lean my neck back, giving him more access even as my brain screams at me to run—not walk—out of this room. But when he says, "You're everything to me." My head falls back even further and my eyes close again as I feel him slant his head and attack my chin, throat, and neck with closed-mouth kisses. I hear myself moan and give myself one more little jolt to try to spare myself from this delicious torment that will only end in frustration.

About this author If you are reading this, I think you should know that "About me" sounds so very pretentious to me. I guess that is what I am supposed to write about, so here it goes!

Katie Mac is a simple country girl who likes to spend time with her hubba, hunka hubby, her three kids and her friends. She loves to cook and really loves to eat! During the spring and summer, you will more than likely find her outside puttering around in her garden. When the veggies start coming in, she will probably be sweating over a hot canner in the kitchen, canning all the goodies she is blessed with. Katie likes to hike and go camping, and as a Girl Scout leader, she gets to do this pretty often! On cold winter nights, you will probably find her wrapped in a warm blanket, lost in a good book, while sitting in her rocking chair on the front porch!

Katie was born and raised in North Carolina, and while she loves to travel, she can't imagine ever leaving the mountains that she has come to call home. Not a day goes by that Katie doesn't thank God for abundantly blessing her. He has been so good to her, and she is very grateful. She holds Jeremiah 29:11 very close to her heart and believes it with every fiber of her being. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Katie loves flip flops, chocolate, sweet tea and dirt between her toes. As far back as she can remember, she's had a book in her hand. Reading has carried her to places she will never go. It has introduced her to people that she will never meet. When life is great and when it is rough, she's always been able to find a book to carry her through. She finally decided to write down some of the stories in her head (yes, be scared) and heart after dawdling around and wasting years dreaming. She hopes you enjoy reading those stories as much as she loves writing them!

Review - Vacationista by Tara Simone

A broken heart. A ticket to paradise. A resort full of honeymooners ... the last thing newly single Patience De La Rosa needs if she's to find a candidate for a casual rebound. Her luggage catching a flight to Mauritius instead of Maui doesn't help matters and a maxed out credit card doesn't buy a girl a fresh pair of panties. Then there's the annoying weird guy, the one who's married to his laptop, sitting beside her at the pool.

Odds for a fling improve when three single, sexy and willing candidates cross her path. Though Patience's luggage may be M.I.A., her breakup baggage crossed the Pacific with her. Will Patience cast it aside, throw caution to the tropical winds and indulge in island debauchery? Or will a tea leaf reader's prediction about her romantic excursions come true in unexpected ways?

My Review:

Vacationista is the beach read to top all beach reads! There is no way you'll be able to put it down once you get started, it's that addictive. Patience De la Rosa has every woman's dream job and shoes to die for, Chanel Espadrilles appropriately named Coco, whom she consults with through out her vacation. Even though the airline loses her luggage, she's able to make do with what she has in her carry on, as well as the $200 in cash she brought with her. The hilarity that ensues on her vacation is absolutely priceless.

Patience has to be one of the most entertaining heroines I've come across. From the moment she sits down next to the weirdo at the pool you know nothing but awesomeness will follow. I absolutely adored Huey and his lack of pigmentation. The witty banter between him and Patience had me laughing out loud on many occasions. They get along so easily without even trying. The fact that he's there for her after every failed rebound attempt is just too cute for words, even if he is teasing her most of the time. And even though he was never really an option, I was Team Huey all the way.

For a debut novel, I'm impressed. The writing style was super catchy and easy to get into. The characters, although quirky, were very real and lovable. This has to be one of the funnest and funniest books I've read in a while. I seriously didn't want it to end and I'm hoping Ms. Simone turns this into a series b/c I would love to hear more about Patience & Huey!!

My Review:

I was completely blown away by this novel. While reading I did nothing but eat, sleep & breath Sharing Harper. So obviously, to say that I loved it is a HUGE understatement. Harper isn't your typical heroine and that's what makes her so awesome. Not that I'm encouraging her tramp-like behavior but its refreshing to see a lead female character in that role instead of the typical womanizing male. Not that there's anything wrong with Ryder, I absolutely adore everything about him. Especially the fact that he saw a damaged beautiful woman with obvious issues and didn't run in the other direction. Instead he ran towards her and was determined to win her over. Yes he has secrets of his own, but it doesn't take away from him being the wonderful jaw-dropping God that he is! Harper's personal growth is noticeable throughout the novel. Ryder did some growing of his own and it was nice to finally see them open up to each other and accept one another for what they are, faults and all and work towards something very real & maybe even permanent. I really enjoyed the writing style and thought the story flowed seamlessly. The characters were well developed and even though most of them had trust funds or where filthy rich in other ways they seemed like your average joe, making them real & relatable. I definitely look forward to reading more books by V. Murphy!
