Tamara Kingsley is supposedly a hero. But she's about to discover that her good deed doesn't actually mean much when it comes to rebuilding a life for herself. No matter how hard she tries to escape it, the stigma of her past is always lurking, holding her back from fully embracing a new life.

And even in Alpha, Valentine hasn't given up. He'll spend the next twenty years planning and scheming, waiting for the opportunity to rejoin the world and have his vengeance. On the top of his hit list? Tamara, of course.

Interview with Valentine!

1. What is your greatest fear?
Being insignificant.

2. What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My eye color.  Women like it, but even having lived with them for so many years, I don’t think I’ll ever come to like having gold eyes.  It is the sole thing where I wish to be ordinary.

3. What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Tamara Kingsley.

4. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

5. What is the trait you most deplore in others?

6. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Morality—the so-called morality of ordinary people, which is really no more than an excuse for those in power to impose their values and beliefs on the rest of society.  Morality is a nebulous and subjective thing, not a true virtue in the real sense of the word.  I don’t believe in complete lawlessness, but I also don’t wish to obey an authority that knows nothing of my life and circumstances yet tries to tell me how I am allowed to behave.

7. What living person do you most despise?
Tamara Kingsley.

8. What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Do you really have to ask?  Alpha.  There’s a reason all its nicknames involve some variation of the word “hell.”
No, I correct myself.  The absolute lowest depth of misery is being in Alpha and knowing that the person you were closest to is the reason you are there.  Knowing that there’s not a single person in the universe missing you.

10. What is your greatest regret?
The obvious answer is “trusting Tamara.”  But even though she’s the reason I’m in this hellhole, I’ll never regret the time I spent with her.  She is the only person I have ever truly loved, the one who taught me what it is to love and be loved.
No, my greatest regret is for her—that she had to do what she did.  Because now she’s left me with no choice.  I do still love her, but that doesn’t mean I’ll excuse her betrayal.

11. How would you like to die?
This is a truly ridiculous question.  Who thinks about how they want to die?
Sometimes I wonder if living forever really isn’t so different from dying.  What good are working lungs and a heartbeat if you can never better your circumstances?  Life is dynamic, beautiful for its fragility.  Without that capacity for growth and change, what is the point to living?

12. What is your motto?
Nothing but death is insurmountable.

Review - Just Like in the Movies by M.B. Feeney

Ava Jones has settled for a life that she’s not sure she wants anymore, but won’t admit it. Her best friend, Erica Davidson talks her into taking a break on the Isle of Wight. Her days on the island are spent thinking things through, and arguing with Morgan whom she hates on principal.

Is it so wrong for her to want a life that follows the script of a honest to God romance film?

~ Kelli's Review ~

Ava has a rather unconventional relationship with her long-time boyfriend. The love they once had has seemed to fizzle away and they are together more out of convenience than anything. Her life may not be as picture perfect as she wishes it would be, but she's comfortable for the most part.

When her and her best friend, Erica, go away on vacation, she begins to see what her life could be if she had enough courage to make some major life changes. Erica tries to push Ava outside of her comfort zone knowing that she deserves so much more than she currently has.

Ava also meets a man that absolutely infuriates her at the beginning of her vacation. For some unforeseen reason, everything about him just gets under her skin and she can't even stand to be near him. However, her thoughts start to change towards the end of her stay.

Upon her return home, Ava starts to reevaluate her life. She now sees that her relationship with Marcus isn't going anywhere and just isn't the same as it was all those years ago. Can she find the courage to completely uproot her current life in hopes of finding something more?

This was a cute little story. It is fast paced and just enough story line for a well though out novella. I really enjoyed how the pages were laid out almost like a movie script. I could see this turning into a full length novel should the author choose to expand on the story.

Things heat up, and not just the Georgia summertime, when Dane and Laney go head to head over plans for her new duplex. But Laney's got his number, and knows just how to coerce her bossy, domineering man. Spend the summer with the gang and find out...just how many is a crowd?

The members of the Evolve Crew are getting older; so is the content. Mature audiences recommended.

“Men shouldn’t know how to decorate anyway, using words like gaudy.” I let one brow raise and give him a suspicious smirk. “Do I need to learn how to fix the cars then? What if I get a flat?” “Oh baby,” he growls, his feet pounding the floor as he stalks toward me, “you questioning my manliness?” “Maybe,” I tease, slowing backing up. “Nancy.” My eyes dart anxiously around the room, mentally planning my escape route in this new territory. He laughs deeply, not a ‘ha ha that’s funny’ laugh, but more an ‘uh huh I’m coming to get ya’ sexy laugh. “Got it planned yet?” He grins knowingly, one eyebrow cocked. “Better run to wherever looks the most comfortable.” There’s no furniture yet, what is he talking about comfortable? Seeing the confusion on my face, he answers unasked. “Showing you how much of a man I am when I catch ya,” he creeps closer, “so I’d stay away from the tile, might hurt your back,” the mischief in his eyes ignites as he continues moving slowly closer, “or your knees.” Do I still have to pretend I don’t want to be caught? I love this side of Dane; the dominant, controlling, hunter than comes out more and more every day. The game’s precept itself is laughable; no one could question Dane’s virility. It seeps from his pores, an aura around him taking up all the air in a room. And he’s all mine. From his forever jostled brown locks and matching warm eyes, cocky lopsided grin and sculpted chest all the way to his eight back, that irresistible v and toned, tight ass- he is mine. “You wouldn’t!” I challenge, knowingly delightfully well that he would. “Oh baby, you know I can and will.” He flips open the button on his pants, that cocky grin suffocating me from where he stands, “I think you want me to.”

Review - Peeking Through Wooden Blinds by Jane Reinhart

Paige Henderson and Joey Novak are planning their wedding. But a devastating and mysterious phone call leads Paige onto a path of self-destruction and into the arms of the wrong man. Her ensuing marriage to Nick Bruska becomes a nightmare and she struggles to regain self-worth. Joey has never forgotten Paige. Will he ever see her again? Only then could they discover the terrible mistake that changed the course of their lives.

~ Kelli's Review ~

Okay, I'm going to do thing a wee bit differently for this review so bear with me.

Although this wasn't my favorite read, I really appreciated the way it was written. I believe the author took a great deal of time to really make this story relatable for some and made the situations represented as realistically as possible. My rating is not a personal one due to the fact that just because I don't like something, doesn't mean it deserves a low rating.

Since I don't typically read historical romance, it was hard for me to put myself in the mindset of this particular time period. I had to keep reminding myself that things were a lot different back then and there were certain expectations when it came to situations that played out in this book. Let me explain.

Peeking Through Wooden Blinds is a story that follows a young woman through her journey into adulthood and continues on as she grows older. When we first meet Paige, she is young and naive growing up in the early 1970's. She has lived a somewhat sheltered life when it comes to relationships. Her father is in the Navy so she has moved quite a bit making any kind of relationship, whether friendship or romantic, very hard to hold onto.

Her first dose of reality comes when she enters her first relationship with a popular boy during her first year of high school. She enjoys the attention it brings her considering she had never really been part of the "in" crowd. Her new found fame (for lack of a better word) makes it hard for her to see how unhealthy this relationship has become and causes her to see this as the norm. It isn't until she meets another boy, a much nicer boy, that she realizes she hasn't been respected as much as she should be.

Joey is a breath of fresh air for Paige. He is gentle and kind and before long, she finds herself falling deeply in love. Her family adores him which only solidifies her decision to give herself to him fully. However, one phone call changes everything. Her vulnerable heart is shattered and another man just happens to be there with a broom and a dust pan to piece it back together.

Paige is now a 20 year old newlywed thrown into a life she never thought she would be living. Her new husband has a hard time ditching his bachelor life and accepting his new marital responsibilities. Decades of broken promises and deceit weigh heavily on Paige's heart, but she refuses to break the sacred vows she promised to him all those years ago.

As I said, I had a hard time putting myself in the mindset of this time period. I wanted to violently shake Paige and knock some common sense into her, but I had to remind myself that back then, certain things were expected from a wife and many things were swept under the rug. I hated how forgiving she was and how she didn't have enough self respect to understand she deserved better. By the end of the book, I was able to respect this story for what is was. It is a glimpse into a very real and common life of a woman finally finding herself after years and years of horrible struggles.

After nearly a year and a half of grieving the loss of her husband, twenty-seven year old Alexa Sullivan Tate is headed back to her hometown after a decade of being away. She has no idea her high school crush, Jace McAllister, the guy who stole her heart the same night that he broke it, is more than ready to pick up the pieces.  Jace has spent the last ten years in the Army defusing bomb after bomb, trying to forget the girl who ignited all his passions. Little does he know that the spark still exists.  Ten years ago they had smoldering chemistry, but the spark between them now might light a fuse that leads to an explosion even Jace can't stop. Not that he wants to. If only Alexa can get past her guilt and trust her heart again.  But how do you put it all on the line when you've already lost everything once before? *While this is a series, each book will be standalone with spinoff characters.
I nod, and she makes her way down the hall that I now see is lined with photographs. My stomach tightens, but I figure that I need to get this over with if I’m going to be staying here. I walk towards them, stopping at the first picture. I’m guessing it’s from the day they first met, the time she told me about, because she’s giving him a playful frown while he’s grinning at her like he’s already half in love with her, which, to be honest, he probably was. I feel a slight twinge as I take in the picture, knowing that at that moment he had no idea how short of a life he was going to have with her. Hell, he probably wouldn’t have even cared, as long as he had her while he could. Shaking the thought out of my head, I browse each one. There are candid shots of them mixed throughout professional ones from events such as her graduation, Sierra and Jeremy’s wedding, and what looks like an engagement party. As I pass each picture, it’s becoming more real to me that she had a whole separate life before we reconnected. Strangely, I’m not bothered by it, seeing how happy she looks in these pictures, even though it was with another man and not me. I’ll admit that I was a little worried when she told me about their fighting, but looking at these pictures? I know Ty made her a happy woman, and I’m grateful that she had that while she could. Do I wish it had been me? Fuck yes, but what can you do? Coming to the last picture, I’m breathless as the image of Alexa in a wedding dress enters my vision. I’m moving in for closer inspection when she comes out of her room, stopping when she catches me. Her hand covers her mouth as she closes her eyes for a split second. She swallows hard before walking towards me. She reaches out her hand as if to touch my arm before pulling it back, obviously thinking better of it. “Jace, I… This is probably awkward, I’m sorry. I just… I wasn’t expecting you, and I don’t…” She trails off as she stares at the wall, glancing at the picture before turning her eyes towards the floor.

Heck, she even made sure we watched Wishbone instead of the Smurfs. In 2011 when I graduated from college, my mom bought me a Nook, and then in the summer of 2012 I found this amazing site called Goodreads. I was introduced to so many amazing indie/self-published authors. After reading almost 400 books that year, my husband gave me the push to finally sit down and write my own. It was a rocky start, but over time the words started flowing and I couldn't get Jace and Lexi out of my head. This was it. My new beginning. My new ending.  I didn’t know what beheld my fate, but I sucked in a breath and stepped over the threshold.  “Bon soir, esclave.” My eyes soared up to the first landing of a giant blue velvet staircase. Massive works of art hung like armament on gold gilded walls.  A man in a grey chequered suit, with black shirt, silver tie, and slicked back hair watched me from the landing. His gaze unclothed me, terrified me.  I stepped back, bumping against guard who didn’t let me go any further. He bent his head and whispered in my ear, his breath tickling my neck. “Say hello to your new master.”

Review - You Are Mine by Janeal Falor

Serena knows a few simple things. She will always be owned by a warlock. She will never have freedom. She will always do what her warlock wishes, regardless of how inane, frivolous, or cruel it is. And if she doesn’t follow the rules, she will be tarnished. Spelled to be bald, inked, and barren for the rest of her life—worth less than the shadow she casts.

Then her ownership is won by a barbarian from another country. With the uncertainty that comes from belonging to a new warlock, Serena questions if being tarnished is really worse than being owned by a barbarian, and tempts fate by breaking the rules. When he looks the other way instead of punishing her, she discovers a new world. The more she ventures into the forbidden, the more she learns of love and a freedom just out of reach. Serena longs for both. But in a society where women are only ever property, hoping for more could be deadly.

~ Megan's Review ~

Serena is a young woman living in a harsh male-dominated world where women are nothing more than a possession to raise their father's status or breed for whatever man wishes to own them. Add into this scenario the element of magic, which only men wield and women possess in their blood, and you can see how existence in this society is for a female. Now that she is of marriageable age she is finally of use to her overbearing and abusive father, since the magic in her blood is so strong, and is sold to a higher ranking warlock. She does not want this life, she does not want to do what is expected of her, and she does not want to belong to anyone. It goes against everything she has been taught and seen with her own eyes to be something else…can one barbarian truly be her salvation.

The harshness of life with her father has taught Serena to only trust that punishment is around every corner…until she becomes Zade's. Zade is a warlock from another area, whose people are perceived to be barbarians due to their large stature, yet she finds he is nothing like that which she had been taught. Serena constantly struggles to trust Zade as he proves to be gentle, protective, and compassionate…but will that be enough to overcome and change her doubts and fears. Additional characters who Serena meet along the way bring out her protective instincts as well as give her courage to voice her opinions, though it is a struggle within her to do so. To see the strength in Serena's character to overcome the bad and assert her own independence in a world that is so against it was refreshing to say the least.

Janeal Falor has written an absolutely enthralling young adult novel. Her way of writing draws you in and makes you feel what the characters are feeling. I absolutely fell in love with the interaction between Serena and Zade…it wasn't the instantaneous can't stay away from each other love but the slow and gentle growth of strong respect, understanding, and love. I finished this in one sitting because I could not put it down! Serena's courage and strength of will demonstrated while she faced the challenges before her left me in awe. I cheered her accomplishments, seethed with her in anger, and felt her guilt and uncertainty as I read. I can't wait to read more about how Serena and Zade overcome the obstacles that still face them from society. My only complaint about this book was the lack of details and back story of society, both Serena's and Zade's, being as they are so different. There is potential for such an outstanding series, as there are several more societies in the area that do seem to function together at times as noted in the book. As the mother of a teenage girl, I would definitely recommend this book to any young girl. It was exceptionally well-written and clean while dealing with an aspect of abuse that most can never comprehend. I can't wait to see what is to come in "Mine to Tarnish" (expected out soon) and "Mine to Spell" (expected out in 2014).

Blog Tour - Madeleine, Abducted by M.S. Willis

She was meant to be his destruction…
A pawn played in a perilous game between
father and son…
Yet, her strength was more than either
man could imagine.
As Maddy learns to save herself…
She becomes the one thing that could
set the son free.

Madeleine Clark was raised to become a concert cellist. Sheltered and naïve, she remains hidden behind her music, a protection from the world around her. On the night of her first solo performance, Maddy accepts the admiration of a stranger and finds herself captive in a cruel and twisted power struggle between a sadistic father and his son, Aaron.

Seemingly, dangerous and uncaring, Aaron manages the business operations of his father’s estate. Wanting nothing to do with the slaves kept at the Estate, Aaron refuses to take part in the deeper depravities of his father. Despite his resistance, Aaron’s father ‘gifts’ him with a petite, brunette woman he can’t refuse.

A bond forged in conspiracy and deceit, Aaron struggles to save Maddy by teaching her to survive in the world in which he’d been raised. An unlikely union, Aaron soon learns that great strengths can exist within small packages, while Madeleine learns that love and light can exist in the darkest of places.

Finding her voice, Maddy spoke out of turn, not thinking about the repercussions her words could elicit.  “I would prefer you call me by my name.”  She peaked up at him through her lashes.  “Maddy, I would prefer that you call me Maddy.”

Aaron stopped with his bare back turned to her, taking several minutes to finally respond, he asked, “What makes you think you are allowed to ask that?  If I wanted, I could call you slave…”  He turned to face her, the contours of chest perfectly shadowed, his strength unquestionable.  “…or whore.”  His swagger was slow as he approached her, a hunter skilled in pursuit.  “Would you prefer those names to ‘Mouse’?”

Sucking her bottom lip between her teeth, Maddy fidgeted with her hands, refusing to look Aaron in the eyes.  She could feel his gaze touching her skin, his perusal of the woman barely half his size.  The heat of his body rolled off of him as he circled her.  It was the feeling of a soft blanket and lustful threat wrapped around her at the same time.  When the deep resonation of his voice occurred again, she cringed, fearing he would strike out at her for the incorrect answer.  “Why do you dislike the name I have given you?”

Continuing to fidget, Maddy trained her eyes on her feet, not daring to look up into the endless green she knew stared down at her.  Gripping her under her chin, Aaron pulled her face up to look at him, his eyes searching hers for the answer to his question.  “You will speak when I tell you.”  Dropping his hand from her face, he took a step back placing distance between them.  “Now answer me.”

Her heart pounded against the walls of her chest, her throat constricted, making it difficult for her to breath.  Fear consumed her as she stood in the shadow of the man who’d taken at least two lives that day.  Barely a whisper, her voice squeaked out the answer to his question. “Because a mouse is a furry little rodent, something detested.”

Aaron stood thoughtful and silent above her.  When he didn’t respond, Maddy quietly added, “I guess it’s better than Xander’s name for me.”

Laughter bellowed out, causing the toned muscles of Aaron’s broad chest to flex and relax before her eyes.  The sound of his amusement so real, it caused her to want to smile in response to seeing a piece of his mask falling away, revealing parts of him not witnessed by many people.  Containing himself, Aaron’s eyes sparkled as he asked, “And what, exactly, is Xander’s name for you?”

A scowl creased the fine skin between her eyes, her mouth pulled into the pout of a sulking child.  “He calls me ‘cricket’…an insect.  It’s odd that you both refer to me as nothing more than a common household pest.”

Aaron’s smile faltered as he looked down upon the beautiful girl who didn’t fully understand her role.  “No, Madeleine, you are not a common household pest…”

Maddy looked up at him, anticipating what he would say next.

For a fleeting second, he looked genuinely amused, but his expression was quickly replaced with indifference and contempt as he stated, “you are lower than even a pest in your role as a slave.”

My Review:

I have been a HUGE fan of M.S. Willis ever since Control. She has such a way with words that I find to be absolutely amazing and intriguing. Ms. Willis has quickly become one of those authors who's books I would buy without even reading the synopsis, mostly b/c she has an awesome track record and hasn't let me down yet.

So about Madeleine, Abducted….what an absolute mind f*ck! It's so dark and unbelievably twisted. You'll be taken on quite an emotional roller coaster as you bear witness to a number of disturbing acts ranging from unapologetic cold-blooded murder to sexual slavery. From the very beginning we're thrust into the story, without any unnecessary fillers leading up to the big abduction, and brought right into this world of unimaginable cruelty.

M.S. Willis did an amazing job of keeping us, the readers, on our toes around Aaron. Just when you think maybe Maddy can let her guard down around him b/c he's not such a bad guy, he does or says something to completely derail that train of thought. He's not as vicious or as maniacal as his father, thank goodness, but he fights with his own demons on a daily basis.

"If I have to make her hate me in order to save her, I will, even if it destroys me in the process."

I seriously cannot wait to continue with this series. I would definitely recommend it to those who love a darkly captivating story that will shock you every step of the way. I'll be anxiously awaiting Joseph Fallen, the prequel novella to the Estate Series.

He thinks he can keep this a secret. When the truth comes out will they be able to survive their worlds being turned upside down? Will their connection be strong enough to make it through?
