Review - Brooklyn & Beale by Olivia Evans

BB Ebook cover

The life of a session musician is rarely easy. After consecutive tour cancellations and a stack of unpaid bills, Chloe Bennett fears her dream has come to an end.

Then everything changes.

Indie rocker Reid Ryder needs a replacement violinist for his tour. For Chloe, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. For Reid, it’s a checkmark off his list. Already battling addiction, guilt, and his inability to write new music, Reid's hopeful that things are finally falling into place.

But life is never predictable.

When the tour begins, he finds himself drawn to Chloe. She challenges and inspires him. Their onstage chemistry is electric. To the outside world, they’re the perfect match. To those involved, however, it’s not so simple. When Reid’s no longer sure that the future he planned is the one he wants, a choice must be made.
Love...or loyalty.

Brooklyn & Beale

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Olivia Evans, where have you been hiding yourself?! I never quite know what to expect with newish authors, but I had high hopes for this one based on the synopsis alone. Thankfully, it was absolute perfection from start to finish. Olivia’s love and appreciation of music really shines through in Brooklyn & Beale, and makes you feel like you’re on tour right along with Reid Ryder and his group.

Typically, I tend to avoid love triangles because I always end up angry at somebody, and it puts a damper on my reading experience, but this love triangle was a sneak attack. It’s not mentioned in the blurb so I just assumed it would be Reid and Chloe’s personal battles making their journey difficult. Lo and behold, there’s more to this story than meets the eye. It totally kicks up the angst and drama another degree, and brings out all sorts of emotions.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that made me lose track of time, and stay up way past my bedtime to finish! The closer I got to the end the harder it was to put down. Olivia does a fantastic job of drawing you into the story with her incredible eye for detail, and deep character development. She combines humor, drama, and romance effortlessly. Each scene added something to the story, and didn’t just serve as what I like to call fluff, and the change from one to the next was rather seamless. All of the problems are resolved and the loose ends are tied up neatly, making this the perfect standalone!

I have easily become a fan of Olivia’s and I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with next. I’ve already one-clicked Hollywood & Vine so I’ll be diving into that ASAP!!

P.S. I had the honor of meeting the author at Indies Invade Philly this past November and she is absolutely amazing! Such a people person, and genuinely cares about her readers.
