Getting Back to Basics...

Lengthy post but worth the read...

Lately I've been doing a bit of soul searching (slightly overdramatic). My interest in books has been dwindling... drastically, and it was really upsetting because, as I'm sure most of you can relate, books have been a major part of my life since I was a child. I haven't been doing much reading at all over the past couple months, partly because real life kept me super busy, but mostly because I just had no interest.

Even though I wasn't reading much that didn't stop me from browsing Amazon everyday hoping something would catch my eye. And then it happened. Let me rewind for a second though, when I started this blog I relied strictly on Amazon searches to find my next read. There was no outside input whatsoever. I read what I wanted, whatever caught my eye, and in doing so stumbled across a bunch of amazing authors. So that's what I blogged about. I was reading a book a day back then too so I had way more recommendations to share. As my blog grew and I started connecting with more and more authors I strayed away from my normal routine (and way of finding books) and ventured further into the blogging world, reading books that were given to me for the sake of an honest review.

Basically what I'm getting to here is that I started reading what everybody else was reading and lost my own individuality. Not that there's anything wrong with following the tops recs and bestsellers. To each his own. Let's jump forward now, back to browsing Amazon... Memorial Day Weekend I was browsing as I always do and came across a series that the "old me" would have instantly been drawn to. I knew immediately that was the book I had to read, and it was going to get me out of my funk. Lo and behold that weekend I read 3 books. Well, technically it was actually 13 books because they were novella length in boxed sets. I came to a very big realization that weekend. I need to go back to reading books that set my soul on fire! Books that capture the whole reason I love reading. Books that provide the escape from reality that got me hooked from an early age. I need to be me.

So I guess the main point of my rambling is to say that I want to get back to basics. I want to cut back on all the promos and focus more on reading and reviews, which is what my blog used to be all about. That means you may see less posts from me, but when you do see them they'll be full of genuine, book-loving goodness! I hope you'll all stick around, and be prepared to talk books!
